General Drive Information

The Drives section provides information on both the Logical and the Physical drives. 

Logical – A Logical drive is a volume you create within an extended partition on a basic disk. A Logical drive can be formatted and assigned a drive letter. Only basic disks can contain Logical drives, and a Logical drive cannot span multiple disks.

Physical – A Physical drive is the actual drive such as a CDROM, Hard Drive and Floppy Drive. A Physical Hard Drive can be converted into several Logical drives.

  • Description – Displays a brief description about the Drive.
  • Remote Name – Displays the Remote Name if it is a Remote Drive. If it is not, Cool Info will display ‘Not a Remote Drive’.
  • Size – Displays the total storage capacity of the Drive in bytes.
  • Space Used – Displays the amount of space used on the Drive.
  • Space Free – Displays the available free space of the Drive.
  • Serial Number - Logical – Displays the logical serial number of the Drive.
  • File System – Displays the type of File System and Partition on the drive. (NTFS, Fat, Fat 32, CDFS, etc)
  • Volume Name – Displays the Volume Name given to the Drive. This name is useful on a LAN to identify specific Drives. On a CDROM, Floppy, or other Drive with removable media, this will display the Volume Name of the disk currently in the Drive.
  • Drive Type – Displays the type of Drive being analyzed (Hard Drive, CDROM, etc.).
  • Target ID – Displays the Target ID for the drive.
  • Manufacturer – Displays the manufacturer of the Drive.
  • Firmware Revision – Displays the current Firmware Version.
  • Auto Insert Notification – Displays whether the Auto Insert Notification is activated. Available on CD-ROM’s only.
  • Int13 – Displays whether Int13 is being used by the selected Drive. 
  • SCSI – Displays whether the drive is using a SCSI interface.
  • Approximate Transfer Rate – Displays the Transfer speed of information in Megabytes Per Second.
  • Serial Number- Manufacturer – Displays the Manufacturer Serial Number of the Drive.
  • Boot Volume – Displays which Volume is the Boot Volume
  • Located on Physical Drive – Displays whether the selected drive is located on a Physical Drive.
  • Number of Volumes on Physical Drive – Displays the number of volumes on the Physical Drive.
  • Total Sectors – Displays the total number of sectors on the Drive.
  • Number of Heads – Displays the number of heads on the Drive.
  • Bytes Per Sector – Displays the number of bytes per sector on the Drive.
  • Sectors per Track – Displays the number of sectors per track on the Drive.
  • Cylinders – Displays the number of cylinders on the Drive.

    Percent Used:
    The percent used displays the amount of space used (and left) on the drive graphically.

    From the Cool Info FX View Menu, click on Drives and select a drive to view.
