System Summary

This section in Cool Info XP reveals information about the system such as BIOS information, Operating System information, and Computer Name. 

  • BIOS Date – Displays the date the system BIOS was last modified.
  • BIOS Name – Displays the manufacturer of the system BIOS.
  • BIOS Version – Displays the current version of the system BIOS. Manufacturers release newer BIOS versions frequently due to unforeseen incompatibility issues with certain hardware and software. The newer BIOS versions typically fix previous issues but often times create new problems in the process. It is typically recommended by most BIOS manufacturers not to update the BIOS unless necessary.
  • Bus Type(s) – Displays the bus types currently available on the system. 
  • CD-ROM Drive - Displays whether a CD-Rom drive is installed on the computer.
  • CPU - Displays the CPU Name, Manufacturer and Speed of the processor.
  • Computer Name – Displays the Computer Name. This name is typically used on a Network to identify a computer.
  • Controller - IDE – Displays the type IDE controller currently being used on the system.
  • Controller – Proprietary CD-ROM – Displays the type of Proprietary CD-ROM controller currently being used on the system
  • Controller – SCSI – Displays the type of SCSI controller currently being used on the system
  • Custom Computer Serial Number – Displays the unique computer serial number used for identification on a network. 
  • Disk Space - Displays the total storage capacity of the Drive in bytes.
  • Free Disk Space – Displays the available free space of the Drive.
  • Keyboard - Displays the Manufacturer and Description of the keyboard installed.
  • MAC Address – Displays the MAC Address
  • Modem - Displays if a modem is installed on the computer.
  • Mouse - Displays the Manufacturer and Description of the mouse installed on the computer.
  • Network - Displays whether a Network connection is available on the computer.
  • Number of Processes in Memory - Displays the number of programs currently loaded into memory.
  • OS Build – Displays the OS Build.
  • OS Product ID – Displays the OS Product ID.
  • OS Registered Company – Displays the company that the Operating System is registered to. This information is generally entered at the time of installation. If no company name was entered it will display ‘unknown’.
  • OS Registered User – Displays the Registered User for the current Operating System. The Registered User name is entered when running Windows for the first time.
  • OS Sub Version – Displays the Operating System Sub Version. Microsoft often times releases newer versions of the same OS (Win95, Win95 OSR2, Win98, Win98 SE, etc.). 
  • OS Version – Displays the OS Version number.
  • Operating System – Displays the current installed Microsoft Operating System. Cool Info XP supports Windows 95,98,Me, NT, 2000 and XP.
  • Sound Capable - Displays whether a sound card is installed on the computer.
  • Startup Mode - Displays how the computer was started up i.e. Safe Mode or Normal
  • TCP/IP Address(s) – Displays the current IP Address for the system. IP Addresses can be assigned by your ISP or can be static meaning you always have the same IP Address. 
  • Your System has been running for – Displays the length of time the system has running. This is reset every time the computer is rebooted. 
  • Time Zone – Displays the Time Zone that is currently set on the computer.
  • Total Fonts Installed - The number of fonts currently installed on the computer.
  • Total Memory - The total amount of RAM installed on the computer.
  • Total Printers Installed - The total number of printers currently installed on the computer.
  • User Name – Displays the name of the User currently logged on to the computer.

    To open the System Summery section:

    From the Cool Info XP View Menu, click on System Summery.
